Residents of a number of areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and Central Java (Central Java) felt strong shocks from the earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.4. Pudalops BNPB will continue to monitor and coordinate with several BPBDs in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Java and East Java. The BPBD Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) in the affected areas has been in the field to collect data and monitor.
BNPB said residents in several areas felt strong shocks.
Shocks with strong intensity were felt by residents of Bantul, Kulon Progo and Gunung Kidul Regencies in Yogyakarta Special Region, while in Central Java Province they were felt, among others, by residents in Surakarta City, Kebumen and Klaten Regencies. Residents of Trenggalek, East Java Province, also felt tremors from the earthquake with moderate to strong intensity for 20 seconds.
Based on the parameters of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the M6.4 earthquake was centered 86 km southwest of Bantul, DIY, with a depth of 25 km. Judging from the BMKG modeling, the epicenter of the earthquake which is in the sea does not have the potential for a tsunami.
Meanwhile, looking at the intensity of shocks with the MMI or Modified Mercally Intensity scale, BMKG identified the Kulon Progo, Nganjuk, Kebumen and Ponorogo regions at IV MMI, while Kediri III – IV MMI and Mojokerto III MMI.
BMKG describes the higher the level of MMI, the greater the impact felt. BMKG describes the MMI IV scale, namely shaking felt by many people in the house, outside by several people, broken pottery, windows or doors rattling and walls creaking.
Responding to the earthquake phenomenon, BNPB appealed to residents to be vigilant and prepared. Anticipate aftershocks. Make sure the structure of the house remains sturdy before returning to the house after the earthquake. Prepare a disaster prepared bag if you have to evacuate to a safe place temporarily.
